RAINFED · Eastern Kutch · No irrigation The Kala Cotton Hand Towel is part of the Rann Collection; textiles from Kutch, Gujarat, where Kala Cotton grows on rainfall alone in the drylands of Rapar and Bhachau. This is an indigenous cotton: a short-staple fibre that industrial mills reject and only human hands can work. What the machines call a flaw is where the texture comes from. Handwoven in a 2×2 twill, the weave structure behind fine suiting, gives the cloth its slight sheen and its supple drape. One towel in unbleached ivory, one with terracotta stripes. Prewashed, and woven dense for daily use. Generously sized. Terrain Notes: Origin: Kala Cotton, Rapar and Bhachau talukas, Kutch, Gujarat Cultivation: Rainfed, no irrigation Climate: Arid drylands, monsoon-dependent Fibre: Indigenous short-staple cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) Weaving: Handloom, Kutch, Gujarat Learn more Specifications: Set of two hand towels 100% Kala Cotton 18" x 30" Unbleached ivory twill; terracotta stripes Cut and sewn in Guelph, Ontario Expect natural variation in this handwoven textile
